Really like this heater. It is filled with flaxseeds, which retain heat for a long time. My hair was super dry. Luckily no breakage or split ends, just very dry. The deep conditioning was fine and the addition of heat helped the cuticles open up and better absorb the moisturizing effects. The terry cloth interior also helps retain heat. I put the lid in the microwave - started at 60 seconds and then added another 15 seconds. The hat felt pleasantly warm. After conditioning my hair, I covered it with the disposable plastic cap that came with it, and then put on this thermal cap. Waited about 20-25 minutes and let it work its hot magic, then took it off and threw away the plastic shower cap and washed my hair. In the before and after photos you can see the difference the deep conditioning and thermal cap made on my hair. If you're wondering what I've used, I've looked at various salon products (Redken, Matrix, etc.) as well as DIY. What I learned about DIY - forget about eggs, yogurt and other nonsense. These molecules are too large to penetrate the hair shaft. Here's my recipe that just worked for my hair: 4 tbsp. Olive oil 2 tbsp Unrefined coconut oil (it is important that it is unrefined) 1 tbsp. Honey coconut oil is thick - think the consistency of lard. When you mix it with olive oil and honey it will start to break down but you will see little white pieces in the mixture. This is normal - it completely dissolves under the influence of the heat of the scalp and head, as well as the heat of the cap. Resist the temptation to heat the mixture in the microwave. This negates the value of unrefined coconut oil that was not heated during the manufacturing process. Have a rag or towel handy as they will drip a little off your forehead. Leave on for a maximum of 20-30 minutes. Your hair only absorbs a certain amount of moisture, so leaving it on for a few hours won't help. Imagine a sponge sitting in a bowl of water. When this sponge is full, it literally cannot absorb any more liquid. I shampooed my hair three times to make sure all the oil was gone, then finished with my regular conditioner as usual. I think the photos speak for the result.
