This is a WIRED system that mounts on the camera's hot shoe (socket on top with retractable arm). The cable connects the device to the flash interface port on your camera. When an accessory like this remote is connected to the accessory port, you cannot use the built-in flash or attach a flash unless you get a splitter cable and attach a separate flash to a stand or bracket. connected to the hot shoe but on my camera (SL1 Canon) the camera disables the built in flash when you use the auxiliary connector. The shoe on the wireless receiver is a "cold shoe" which means it's just comfortable to hold - no electronic connection. Leaving the receiver aside, you could mount the flash on top, but I have NOT been able to test if the unit fires at the same time. If I can borrow a flash I'll test it, but for now it looks like it's good for outdoor and natural light photography. The minimum shutter speed is 0.1 seconds and you can do 2 second delays, but nothing else. There is a "Bulb" setting to manually open and close the shutter for long exposure night shots. (FYI, "bulb" refers to the pneumatic rubber ball that opened the shutter on old cameras. We still use B or bulb nomenclature.) You can start time-lapse photography continuously at five-second intervals. You are automatically limited to 199 shots by the timer; I think it should be more, there's no reason not to get it to 1000. You can run two cameras with the same transmitter, but the receiver is not sold separately, so you need to buy a duplicate kit to get two receivers. This block is not very expensive; To get a custom advanced slow motion and remote system you have to pay more so you get what you pay for. It's good for hobbyists who want to capture the stars or nature, and I would recommend it if you have kids and are teaching them photography techniques and science. You won't spend a lot of money and you can do some advanced things with your DSLR. Summary: Good for outdoor enthusiasts but not for indoor or studio flash work unless you have a mount and flash system.
