Review on ๐Ÿ  Enhance Your Freshwater Aquarium with BeamsWork DA FSPEC LED Light for a Vibrant and Healthy Environment by Becky Gilbert

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Bright. cooler color. Questionable power supply.

Light body looks well built. The backlight is bright, 5730 LEDs and the lamp doesn't get warm and neither does the internal circuit board. that's fine, the heat sink turns out to be a sufficient adapter on the other side. There's a strange tension coming out. 15V which is weird. Given that 12/14/16 would be the best choice in terms of efficiency, 14 volts for blue and white (3.5v) and it's easy to put the reds in series. also bridged 6 or 8 (1.8-2.2) for 14v to 13.2v 15 volts seems strange to me. Combined with the fact that this power supply gets MUCH hotter than it should, I am concerned about the longevity of this light. that and the fact that it's impossible to find a replacement for the 15 volt AC-DC inverter if it dies. I'm tempted to take it apart to see how and why it was made that way. I assume the design was meant for 14 volts but 15 was used to overdrive the light a bit (3.8v vs 3.6) to get a little more brightness out of them (blue and white stop at longest/best at 3.6V) and by then you'll start dying LEDs after more than a year. I'll update the photos after I get some readings from this thing. Update 2018: The light is still strong. The power supply should be replaced with a better one. The voltages are 3.2 for blue and white and 1.7-1.8 for red, which is low (3.5 and 2.0 nominal). The 5730 LEDs are still bright but don't produce as much heat or light if they were more powerful. that doesn't mean throwing an 18 volt power supply at it, that won't work. but keep the PSU with some airflow around it. not in the closet with your air pumps (they get hot!) 2019 update. The light still works. checked it out. No lost led added a star as it is 2 years old and based on the led board I will get 10+ years from this thing. when replacing the 14.4V power supply is a safe bet. but I've touched it the glass of the plant tank (24/7 lighting and CO2 grow tank) and it seems to give off enough heat to make me comfortable.

Pros
  • Lumens: 4000
Cons
  • boring packaging
