Review on Optimized Silicone Black Steering Wheel Cover - Racing Power Grip for Enhanced Ergonomic Handling (Black) by Ken Beasom

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Big . if you like burning your hands!

Purchased for a 2001 Mustang GT to hide the OEM leather finish, add some heat resistance and improve grip a bit. He achieved only two out of three of these goals. Not only does this not insulate your hands from the heat, it actually performs WORSE than the Original Equipment leather wheel cover. Rather than insulating the wheel from heat, it actually transfers heat to your hands. I'd think silicone would be a good heat protectant - you know, oven mitts and whatnot are made out of it - but it's downright TERRIBLE for keeping hands cool, especially in direct sunlight. Even without direct sunlight, it absorbs ambient heat from inside the vehicle and becomes painfully hot. On the plus side, it slides easily over the handlebars and sits snugly, snugly and securely on them with no movement. And the surface is VERY stubborn. It doesn't look bad either. If this thing actually offered SOME thermal resistance, it would be rated a 4 star, maybe even a 5. It might be a better fit for someone in a very cold climate, but it definitely doesn't fit here in Arizona.

Pros
  • Excellent Overall Performance
Cons
  • Running Speed
