I used to have a much cheaper stun collar that worked but stopped holding a charge after a year. This collar has a much stronger construction than this one. The quality is obvious. I was torn between several Sport Dog models and decided that this model had the most flexibility. First, I needed the ability to use a beep, vibration, or shock. I also wasn't sure how much shock was required for my 70lb Golden, who has a gentle nature but is very stubborn at times. This one offered all 3 levels so I could find the right level. Turns out, all it took was a low level 3 to get his attention. I like that it's orange in case I lose it - it's easier to see where I dropped it. Like the screen, it provides exactly the information I need (impact level, battery remaining). What I really like is that it is waterproof. My dog loves swimming, walking in snow, splashing in muddy puddles, etc. and I'm not worried about having to remove the collar in such conditions. As for the shock, I only had to give him juice twice. When I first set it to medium, the dog almost jumped in the air when I pressed the button. From there all I had to do was grab the remote control and he knew I wasn't kidding and would follow the command provided. Weeks went by and all it took was a beep to fix it. He then decided to test the limits again when he ignored the stop command and went to a place I didn't want him to go. Hit him with a shock at a much lower level than before. He stopped dead in his tracks and immediately returned. Since then I haven't had to correct anything. Overall it's expensive, but it's good value for money with plenty to choose from, lots of options, and a battery that seems to last forever between charges. It's worth it if I walk my dog without a leash.
