I bought this laptop for a reason. My isolated 87 year old mother was able to connect with her children during COVID. I've spent a lot of time researching which computer is best for video conferencing, especially Zoom. The two main things needed for this laptop were a quality built-in microphone and webcam. Also, it must be reliable and easy to use. I couldn't be there in person to fix technical issues for my mom, so I had to make sure everything was working. When she first connected to Zoom, we found that the built-in microphone sucks. We could barely hear her voice as she began to speak, then grew louder, then more intense, then quieter. (After more research I found out that many others had this problem). She had an external mic so she plugged it in and it worked so I left that problem. Everything was fine until this Sunday. I was looking forward to meeting my son and mom on Zoom but found my mom's Dell was slow as molasses and her built in webcam stopped working on Zoom after the update. After an hour of trying to fix the problem and even letting my son who is an IT professional living abroad work with it, he realized that something was seriously wrong with the laptop. My mom lives 360 miles away and I don't know how to help her right now. It had to be a reliable computer, great for video conferencing, with an excellent microphone and webcam. So instead of Easter Sunday ending with an amazing virtual meetup with loved ones, I am now stressed, in tears and angry.
