Fan speed problem solved!

I think I've had to replace one of these in almost every car I've owned over the past 20 years. They seem to last 8 or 10 years and then they tend to lose the lower fan speeds first and generally the top speed stays operational. This time it was at my daughter's 2003 Grand Am. I've done the same model before and I'm having a hard time getting the mounting screws out as they are hidden behind the fan motor and directly across from the car firewall at the passenger's feet behind the glove box. You just have to work at it and find the right angle and combination of tools to get there. In my case I used a set of 1/4" sockets and a combination of a 2" extension with a socket and underneath I used a universal joint (they flex if you're wondering) and even a 6 -inch joint. Power outlet. extension cord and then a wrench. You will also need a flashlight and a mirror to see what you are doing there as you will not have a direct line of sight. Either way, it's doable and you'll soon have all fan speeds back!
