Came in a fairly compact pouch as the cushions were vacuum sealed. When I opened it up I found I couldn't put it back in my bag without re-vacuuming it with my own bags. It has grown quite large and will fit my baby perfectly when it is born. It's not intended to be used as a bed but I see it being used for sleeping for an older child that still fits. My 4 year old might use this as a last resort. The material is nice and looks like it will wash fairly easily once the inserts are removed from the pillow. I love the muted giraffe pattern which is pretty much gender neutral. When I realized how big it was I wondered where I would store it and then I realized that it has handy handles on the top and side for easy hanging in my closet.
