The instructions are very precise. This stuff gets your hands, floors, etc. dirty. I wore latex gloves because I felt more protected. Honestly, it just looks dark. We tried to see the beautiful indigo under sunlight but it's almost invisible. This is virgin hair that has never died before. We let it sit for an hour and rinsed in cold water as directed. And flushed again and again and again, and the whole sink was indigo blue. We used a sulfate free shampoo and left the product that was in the box for about 4 hours.
