I bought these pliers after realizing that my old pliers no longer cut clean (dull) nails. The old ones were plain metal, small and uncomfortable for me. The cutoff is about the same size as my old pair, but they're definitely sharper. Rubber pads near the holes make it easier to hold. It could also just be big holes which are probably better for boys. But large handles help with the odd ways you sometimes have to hold the clippers when laying your cat down (and you can't put them down or you'll lose a moment of opportunity). I know it sounds silly but it's true. Haven't had them long enough to know how long they stay sharp but will post when they dull faster than a cheap pair. Update December 2017: I've owned them for a year now. I downgraded my star rating from 5 to 4. They still work but are now difficult to open/close and have gone dark. I didn't really use these that much as I found a better pair, so they were either always dull and I didn't understand what a "clean" nail cut looked like, or they were just outdated. I'm currently using it more regularly on a kitten and have found that it doesn't cut as cleanly as the other pair. However, the size is better for a kitten. I guess for what I paid I shouldn't expect them to stay sharp forever, but I do expect them to continue to open and close easily. If I had arthritis in my hands I wouldn't be able to use them at all.
