Polyester screen frame, strong enough when inflated. It inflates quickly and you need to help him fold and squeeze it until it's fully inflated. The screen is a heavy plastic/vinyl attached with velcro. Attachment can be done before or after inflation. Whichever way you choose, you'll never get all the wrinkles off your screen. If you're projecting a movie or a sporting event, don't worry too much, you won't notice it. In windy weather, you must use the attached tabs on the corners and top to prevent blow out. I would give it 5 stars if there were instructions on how to set it up the first time and the best way to fold it up for storage as you will never put it in your tote bag again. It's worth the price in comfort and simplicity as well as quality.
