I live out of town and we often have power surges during storms that fry our DSL modem (yes we're still stuck with SLOW DSL) . To clarify, the surge comes from the phone line, not the power line, and most surge protectors I've used seem to fall short at protecting the RJ11 connector. After going through 3 modems protected by surge protectors from other branded stores (both the power line and the phone line) I tried this Tripp Lite. Put simply, it absolutely works. This crack protector acts as a sacrificial device and protects the modem connected to it. So far I've had to replace the Tripp Lite twice after a thunderstorm (the RJ11 connector on the Tripp Lite goes out after a hard knock) but have never had a damage to the modem.
