The instructions are confusing at best. The buttons are named differently. So, does it work?

I have just opened the box and found the instructions look like they have been used before. It made me nervous right in front of me. But the rest of the packaging and the rest of the items in the box looked fine. I read the instructions and made a note of what the buttons are called and where they are located on the device (see page 1 of the instructions) but it was useless exercise. Neither on the "quick start card" nor in the 4-language instruction booklet were the button designations used that are labeled on the first page of the instructions. So I had to guess which key to press/hold. I had to run back and forth between the notebook and the map to somehow understand what to do. The very first point in the "Use" section of the brochure states that you plug in the device and the intensity indicator turns red and starts flashing, which means the circuit is fine. After plugging in the power cord and turning it on, nothing turned red or blinked. So I pressed and held the power button according to the following instruction and the LCD screen did indeed light up. Then, as instructed, I pressed the power button a few times and noticed that the "gear" indicator shown on the LCD screen actually indicated that it was in a higher or lower gear. The instructions also say to press the "Slide and Auto Flash Mode” button for 2 seconds to switch between push and flash mode and auto flash mode. There is no such button in the instructions. There's a 'light button' so I figured maybe they were talking about that. After holding down the "light button" for a second or two, some indicators appeared on the LCD screen, and they disappeared after I held the same button down for another second or two. But in no case did lightning erupt from the block's head. Anyway, I pressed and held that button again and I believe it was the auto flash mode when the light came back on. I was very surprised when suddenly a very bright flash of light emanated from the device head as soon as I touched the device head on my forearm. After that first flash, when I pressed it against my skin, it flared up every second or so. However, I was just speculating on how to operate this thing. And also, the instructions don't say if I should just flash it once and then move the device to the next spot on my (e.g.) armpit, or if I should flash it a few times before moving it, etc. And ever since I don't see any red flash when I first plug it in (which the instructions say indicates the circuit is good), I really can't tell if the device actually works and I'm not sure whether what do I need to do to make sure I'm working properly. There is no contact information in the main manual, nor on the packaging. The "Quick Start Card" contains an email address for warranty and support, and that's all the contact information. I won't try to email them because I don't need the hassle. And I'm not sure I trust this thing. I don't want to be nitpicky and it wasn't very expensive but I'll just send it back and then buy another unit that has a website to go to and a phone number to call if I need you Help.
