A storage system is worth something

Remembering my time with the Boy Scouts of America, I decided to purchase this so I can teach my children this important skill. The first time I used it, I was able to mine coal and start a fire. The most impressive part of it is the storage system. If you are using this spindle and need a new one, it will take just as long to taper the end of the spindle bearing block and make the bearing block as it will to simply cut the end of the bearing block to accommodate this bearing system. With this storage system there is absolutely NO heat generation! The only end that generates heat is the end you need to generate heat. The only issue I had was that the wood is very soft (good for beginners because it's easy to make embers out of) but for non-beginners it wears out pretty quickly. Also, the end of the char producing spindle has too narrow a taper. It can literally turn it into a drill because it's so tight. Now that the shaft is worn down to the taper, it wears out much more slowly. I can't recommend this enough for beginners, it's an easy way to learn the basics of archery and the drill. For an expert I still recommend this for a stock system, it's awesome and you can use it on your own spindles! The design is well thought out as I made three of these and successfully started a fire using it as a template (1 inch dowel, drill bit, small sign, some planing and paracord).
