First of all I don't know anything about the science behind light killing bacteria and I haven't done anything. Research what color is needed for how long. So I can't say anything about the functionality or the success of this feature. I bought these because my primary need was something to protect my toothbrush when traveling. The potential benefit of bactericidal light was a bonus, but no joke. Judging by the protective travel case for your toothbrush, I found this product to be lacking. For starters I would like the door to have some sort of latching ability, currently it seems to depend on a rigid hinge to keep the door closed. I also wish the hole where the toothbrush handle dangles was smaller or made in a way that still allows airflow but keeps dirt out so easily. For example, when I first traveled with this device, I threw it away. (with my toothbrush) in my make-up bag, packed my stuff and off I went home. As I unpacked, I found another item had been broken, resulting in clumps of wax lipstick in my brush sanitizer. On the other hand, the housing is very easy to clean. In fact, our experience was simple throughout. Easy to clean, easy to use, easy to charge, easy to store. Another plus is that the charge lasts quite a long time, my daughter uses it every day (about 3 weeks) with the charge that comes with it! We didn't even unwind the cable for them. She also likes the pattern she chose and that she wasn't stuck with a monochromatic case or a quirky character head case for her toothbrush. I understand that these protective cases are quite durable and harder to remove, but those who use them while traveling may struggle due to the added weight. Finally, I don't know if it works to disinfect your brush. I know it doesn't work as a protective travel case for toothbrushes. But it works like a carry case, serving as a fun light show that gets my kid excited about brushing their teeth, which any parent knows is far from a waste.
