Review on Type DuoView Front Camera BT56282 2 by John Camelio

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It works but needs some work

I bought one of these outside of Revain. Installation isn't too difficult, but you'll need to route the rear camera cable from front to back. So you need to figure out how to hide it so it doesn't look ugly. The video quality is good, even at night. The windshield camera suction cup mount, like all suction cup mounts I've had, will fall off the glass after a while. You just have to stick it one more time. To my surprise, the double tape for the rear camera never let me down. When you rotate the mount to the locking position, it should lock the camera in place so it doesn't move. It worked for a while, but now it doesn't block its movement so it doesn't stay in the perfect position where you want it. Not a big problem, just a minor inconvenience. I think the camera has an internal battery to save your settings, but mine doesn't save the settings for more than a few minutes, so the settings are lost after I turn the car off. Again, this isn't a big problem, except that the time and date are never correct. It always goes back to January 1, 2017. This makes it a bit difficult to find a specific video that has been recorded. It doesn't have motion detection recording, so as soon as you start the car, it starts recording. The biggest problem I have is that when you turn off the car, you have to remember to stop the recording manually, otherwise the file will be corrupt and unplayable. For a while I wondered why I was never able to see a video of me turning into my neighborhood and pulling into my driveway. Also, there were always some videos that wouldn't play and then I found out it was because the camera turned off when I turned off the key. If it was writing the file when this happened, it would have corrupted the file. It should be designed to auto-save in the event of a power outage, but again this could be due to the internal battery dying. So all in all a pretty decent camera if you can handle the little annoyances and don't forget to manually stop recording before you turn off the car.

Pros
  • Car backup cameras
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
