Reliable IEMs under $100.

If you're like me you just want to upgrade your phone's standard headphones and find the highest quality headphones without spending a ton of money. It's worth spending more to get something better. You might be wondering: Can I even tell the difference between $30, $300, and $3,000 headphones? And, more importantly, are these differences worth the price? Unless you're a professional musician, audio engineer, or just someone with a huge income, the answer is probably no. So, as someone in the latter group, here's what I learned: * Differences in sound and build quality are noticeable in the sub-$200 headphone range. But as you go beyond $200, those differences decrease exponentially. In other words, most people can tell an audible difference between $20 and $200 headphones. But to tell the difference between $400 and $1500 headphones? Not so much.* Treat YouTube reviews or audiophile websites (like head-fi) with a healthy dose of skepticism. Some of these reviewers are frankly barkers. They only do this to get free devices from companies. Other reviewers may have different tastes in music than you do. For example, if they recommend "A" headphones, that's fine, but what kind of music did they listen to to make that recommendation? This is important because if you've been listening to jazz or tracks with lots of vocals, but you like music with a lot of bass, like electronica or hip-hop, you might find that these headphones lack bass. So, all that said: This is my first outing. to IEM reviews. I've researched dozens of hours (for fun; I just love exploring new things) and found that the reviews for the KZ AS10 are almost universally positive (both advertisers and honest reviewers). So I took the plunge and bought them. I listened to them for about 15 hours and am impressed. I hear something new in songs I've been listening to for decades. For example In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins. At 00:02:12 - 00:02:52 a male voice speaks, in the left channel only, repeating Phil Collins' words. Have you ever noticed? I didn't know exactly. When I heard that, I was surprised. Of course, I thought, it must be a remastered track. But when I went back and listened to the original 1981 release, there it was! And at that moment everything was right for me: that's what it means to be "HiFi" for something. Basically, high fidelity is how accurately something can be reproduced. Visually, this can be compared to the difference between a cheap poster and an expensive lithograph. Pros: The bass is clean and precise. (Jazz and rock fans will be particularly pleased.) The mids sound rich and lively, with just a little hiss. (Acoustic guitars and vocals are clean and pleasant.) The highs are crisp but not harsh. Disadvantages: Despite an overall good balance between low, middle and high frequencies, I miss the sub-bass a bit. It's there, but I just want it to be more real. It's perfect for jazz and rock. But for bass-heavy genres like electronica, you may need to adjust the EQ. The cable just sucks. No matter how well you wrap it, the storage wire can get snagged, making detangling a chore. This causes the memory wire to lose its individual shape, forcing you to change its shape every time you place it on your ears. It's a mess and distracts from the headphones. Seriously consider upgrading your cable. Conclusion: I recommend it with some caveats. KZ AS10 is clean, balanced and very interesting to listen to. You won't realize how bad your standard headphones were until you listen to them for a few hours and then go back and try your old headphones again. If you listen mostly to rock and jazz and are looking for great IEMs under $100, look no further. Buy it. The almost unanimous positive reviews of these headphones on the internet are fitting. Those who prefer genres with a lot of bass (hip-hop, electronica) should still like these headphones. bass is; it's just not the rumbling of the brain. If you play bass these headphones may not be for you. For everyone else, add these IEMs to your shortlist. Some tracks I listened to for this review: Rock: AC/DC - Back In Black Billy Brag & Wilco - California Stars John Mellencamp - Pink Houses Queensrรฟche - Silent LucidityPop: The Cars - Drive Fleetwood Mac - Never Go Back Again Michael Jackson โ€“ Billy Jean Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight Prince & The New Power Generation - 7 The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) Electronica: Daft Punk - Giorgio Von Moroder Dillon Francis, DJ Snake - Get Low Donna Summer - I Feel Love Stereo MCs - ConnectedJazz: Jeff Goldblum - Cantaloupe IslandIrish: The Dubliners - Raglan Road
