They do as they say, hold long-handled tools. A spade's handle is about the same size as the shaft they hold. If you use tools with thicker handles, sledgehammers, hooks, axes and the like, spend the extra money and buy the black ones, which are also good for hunting season. I use bungee to hold the tools in place more securely as there is a slight front to back slippage when traversing hilly terrain and creeks.
