Review on πŸ“Ή Enhanced Recording Experience: RCA DRC8060N DVD Recorder with Commercial Advance by Issac Burnett

Revainrating 1 out of 5

$$$ and days of my life I can't get back

RCA sent me this model after I bought a previous unit, the DRC8040N, which never worked even after not working with the one advertised RCA technology under warranty. This device has only successfully recorded twice - once directly from my camcorder (but with many freezes, wasted DVDs, and instances where the device suddenly "recognizes" my connected camcorder). The only other successful recording was taken off the tivo but did not contain the programmed chapter titles, had title problems and had to be monitored throughout the process. Poor playback quality. Since then the unit has not recorded successfully, having consumed another half-dozen discs and lost over 16 hours of recording, ending in vain. Playing or recognizing media just burned to disc, still in and out of unit, slow command response, and SHAMELY poor RCA/Thompson customer service. I can understand a lemon, but two in a row? After all, RCA categorically refuses to refund the cost of the original unit and would not even trade in the DRC8060N without doing a pointless exercise of sending this second unit to RCA's nominated technical center. Based on many hours of research and over six months of experience trying to find a solution to this problem, I have come to the conclusion that RCA knows these devices are faulty. Most RCA designated repair centers in my area will even refuse to accept repair orders for this unit and the DRC8040N, even if they risk their official "RCA" designation. Based on supervisor-level RCA support staff (so-called "escalation specialists" - not because you're currently angry, but because talking to one of those condescending double entenders will make you slit your wrists, which will eventually "escalate" eventually. even the most sensible consumer), I believe RCA is purposely scamming distressed and frustrated consumers until we give up or the warranty expires. They refused to give me a name to write a complaint to. These devices shouldn't even be on the market. I will never buy RCA/Thompson products again.
