Review on Transform Your Home with the Philips Hue White and Color LED Smart Button Starter Kit by Tamara Jackson

Not enough functionality for the price

Given the Hue Bridge's high cost, I expected to be able to program my lights. Ironically, with a cheap LED strip with built-in WiFi and a simple app, I have more control than Philips Hue. I wanted to set up the light with RGB; Philips offers a color wheel. I wanted to be able to turn on sections of light for specific colors with simple commands or timers; Philips likes to hide your specially programmed "scenes" in favor of their pre-programmed default settings. You cannot configure a command to perform multiple functions. That said, in order to set different lightbulbs to different colors and brightnesses at night, I need to set up several "procedures". Again, when you program a zone in a routine, Philips hides the scenes you've specifically configured (but not when you're programming a room). I also received a button in the starter kit. The button has even more limited uses. You have the option of switching through preset "light recipes" (different color tones and white intensities) at the push of a button or setting a specific light recipe for a specific time of day, which is then activated at the push of a button. You can't even use the switch for easy on/off switching, which was one of the reasons I wanted one. I found the app a little aggressive when it comes to connecting to Siri, HomeKit and accessing my location. I'm uncomfortable, honestly. If their privacy policy and terms of use weren't as simple as legally possible, I would return the kit directly to Revain. In short, if you really want to program the light down to the smallest detail (or only need very specific colors) then this isn't the setting you want... and the button is annoying.
