The thing is solid. This is real hardwood, looks good, smells good and the pup loves it. We bought this for our German Shepherd and he loves it. It is very durable, the roof is sloping and made of real roofing, so it is adequately protected from the elements. Pup likes to hang out on the roof for a better view, but it's big enough and roomy enough for them to climb in, turn around and lie down. He can stick his head out the door or hide in a corner if he doesn't want to be disturbed. We also bought a winter insulation kit here in Washington. It fits snugly and we were still able to fit a good memory foam mattress for it and it still has room to climb in and relax. The lower part of the house is made of slatted wood, so if there was no bed or similar, the puppy would lie on the tree and not feel the draft. It's good that it's also elevated because it can stay outside and not fall to the ground and ruin the wood. The legs are plastic, which is very helpful. I recommend this to everyone. We didn't bolt the roof to the house as the insulation kit goes in and out through the roof, but it's heavy enough to sit snugly on and not move at all.
