the size is according to the size chart. It is very long and needs to be hemmed. Size 12 is 50 inches from shoulder to hem. My daughter is quite small and the lining/bodice combination is too far forward. The lace on the bodice is soft so it looks like it could stretch further at the bottom. I cut the ribbon (actually a satin fabric) from the waist. It was sewn only with small stitches on the front and sides, and the bow was sewn on it as a separate detail. The waist band is sewn into the seams with zip ties but has been easily trimmed with small scissors. I'm going to use a belt (cut in half lengthwise is ideal) to sew two straps to the bodice lining to hold it up. Yes they will show through the lace but the lining of the dress will stay in place no worries Great buy Worth a few adjustments!
