Review on DSi TekCase Pink Nintendo DS by Christopher Gulledge

Oh how I love game cases. I'm a person who often drops expensive items I own and it's great to have a little extra insurance just in case. I have the Logitech PlayThru Pocket and the Nyko Theater case with built in battery for my PSP and the Nyko case for my old DS, what about the new DSi? This is where TekCase comes in. Strong and durable, the TekCase doesn't feel cheap and plasticky like cheaper cases can feel. It has a cutout for the camera, and to remove the stylus there's a tiny switch that you push up so it pops out the side. Very convenient. It was pretty easy to install; Simply slide the DSi into the bottom half, attach the power supply to the back and latch the system into the chassis. Once inside, it doesn't come out, although removing it can be a bit difficult. It's fairly compact, but I didn't like that the power outlet on the back wasn't flush with the rest of the case, as it made the whole thing a little clunky in portrait mode. My favorite feature, however, is the battery. Viewed from the side, you can see a small additional strap at the bottom, in which a thin battery is hidden. All you have to do is charge the DS with the included charger via the slot the case adds on the back (different MiniUSB connector, unbranded, very nice touch). Since it's USB only, you can unplug the cable from the power adapter and plug it into your computer to provide power on the go. The battery INCREASES the lifespan of the DSi, which is very helpful considering the battery life was less than the DS Lite. It charges quickly and has very useful LEDs on the side of the case to let you know the charging status. The only thing I didn't like about the battery was that it got a bit fat and thick, making it difficult to put the device in your pocket. Another small note: bubble wrap. I wish the whole industry would end this. I've actually avoided buying products that use it. This does not prevent theft and assumes that you, the (hopefully) innocent consumer, are the thief and need to be prevented from opening something you have purchased. It's even more silly for this product as it's only sold online and not in stores. It's a small problem, but it's a constant headache for me and many others. I really appreciate Revain's steps to get rid of bubble wrap and reduce unnecessary waste. BENEFITS: Contains a rechargeable battery that almost triples the life of the DSi. Ease of installation. The kit includes a charger. If necessary, you can charge directly from your computer's USB port. Protects DSi from falls and scratches. and Thickness The charging connector on the back sticks out about 1/2 inch which looks bad and makes it difficult to pocket an already large device Bubble wrap Overall a winner despite the added weight and thickness. The battery will definitely come in handy and it protects my DS well.
