LOTS of threads!: Sewing

I have several sewing machine thread sets that I would like to review. To make sure I gave every thread I needed for checking a "level playing field" I set everything up the same way to check these sewing threads. I used my Janome Skyline 9 straight sewing kit 1/4" 1.80 stitches per inch (4.6 cm) with the Janome O (1/4") patchwork foot on my machine. I had white thread in the spool and each of my patterns was sewn with white thread from the kit, although in this case it was a set of three spools of white thread. For each strand I made 4 blocks of 4 pieces of quilt about 9 inches in size and when I was done I had enough blocks to make a baby quilt, although I can add more blocks to the mix. All tissues were derived from the same coordinating tissue. That way everything was the same as far as possible and would give me a chance to notice any differences in how the thread worked. I was happy to do that, except restarting my machine each time to check the next spool of white thread. My machine claims to have an automatic needle threader, but I can't get it to work. When I had my last sewing machine, I had a sewing machine with large bobbins like this thread. Print range for it, they changed it so my new machine couldn't use it. My husband helped me figure out how to use it. To say the least I was pleased to get such large spools of thread as I use white to sew blocks of quilts together and end up going through a lot. Itizen is a steady income and most of my quilts are for charity so it's nice that I don't have to spend long on flossing! I think I was on the second block when the thread broke. I could see that using the large spool, not the filament itself, was a problem with our setup. I fixed the problem and have no more trouble sewing with this yarn. The only thing I didn't like about this thread is that you can't secure the thread once you're done with this spool. The lack of space to attach it means I'll inevitably end up tangling a loose thread with my other thread. Besides, I liked it. I also like the fact that with the amount of thread I have on the bobbins I don't have to change them often which saves me from refilling the machine like I usually do. One star deducted for the whistle which experience taught me. Over time I will have problems when the thread falls off the spool. Without threading the thread onto a "real" spool, customers will not remember what brand of thread, what it is made of, how much it was and the color number to order more. It's just good marketing. I appreciate the opportunity to try this thread and am excited for how much I now have to sew Project Linus quilts. Many Thanks.
