Review on πŸ”Œ Ethernet Patch Cable for Networking with Router Support by Dwayne Pore

Revainrating 2 out of 5

If you purchase the long version, please note that this cable is NOT SHIELDED and may not work at all.

I just installed gigabit internet and wanted to get a direct connection from my router upstairs to my computer downstairs in the basement. I drilled a hole to run a 75 foot cable through the floor and route it along the edge of the room to my computer. I am giving 2 stars in my rating but that may have been my own fault in choosing unshielded cable as I was unaware of the crosstalk factor between power lines and fluorescent lights in close proximity. Although I'm not entirely sure if this was even the cause of my problems as it worked fine on one device but not others. When plugged into my main wall mounted desktop it was recognized but only at 10Mbps. At any other speed the cable wouldn't be recognized and the lights on the ethernet port wouldn't even come on. I actually thought I fried my ethernet port a bit but went back to my old powerline method with shorter Cat5e cables and it worked really well. I tried it on another laptop, it wasn't even recognized. It ran at 100Mbps on my old workstation laptop. All devices running Windows 10, fully updated drivers for BIOS and Ethernet ports from Intel, Realtek and Qualcomm. If you plan to order a long cable and move it from one room to another where there is a possibility of crosstalk between other power lines, order shielded cable. They're a bit more expensive but I hope they do the job. Since this cable was fairly cheap, I honestly wasn't too surprised it got hit or miss.

Pros
  • Cat6 - 4-wire UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) - CCA
Cons
  • I can't remember
