These pads are no joke. They're heavy (not easy for a pet to push off) and quite sharp. I actually held my dog over the pad and had her paws touch it so she would know how it felt before jumping up on it and hurting herself. Their heaviness and prickliness makes them a bit hard to maneuver. But they have absolutely kept our dog off the couch and chairs that they're on and until we can train her to stay off the furniture (or to stay on top of the blanket we lay out for her to lay on), these are awesome.
