I didn't buy this to keep litter off the floor; I bought this because one of my cats is a "high writer" meaning that even with a very large litter box she can sometimes urinate over the edge .managed to get a small trickle of urine down the outside of the litter box which then seeped UNDER the litter box where it sat for a day or two before it started to smell.I picked up the box and didn't even realize that underneath the was a mess the whole time.When I discovered the urine caught under the tray and between the box and the wooden floor, the damage was already done.for a few reasons: It is big enough to fit under my sterilized litter box, with nice neutral color ridges on the sides to keep urine from rolling onto the textured bottom of the floor so it doesn't become flush. with the floor, holding back urine if anyone has managed to get under it - a material that's easy to clean. Unfortunately, my tiny house doesn't have a non-wooden floor big enough to hold a tray, but this thing helped solve that problem. . I have already found that it has saved my floor on several occasions as it has small splatters of urine on it which I can easily wipe off with a rag or paper towel. Sometimes I take it back, hose it down and let it dry in the sun. I highly recommend this product.
