I had a badger and synthetic brush. Badger is good, but both synthetic and boar are just as good and much cheaper. This brush has a slight animal odor when you receive it, but it is unnoticeable when you apply shaving cream to it. A few hairs came out first. For me, boar picks up foam better because the bristles are stiffer than badger or synthetic. For the same reason, it's the least boring, but certainly not uncomfortable, let alone annoying. It is highly recommended to try one of these before embarking on the badger route. You can always throw it in your travel shaving kit and use the badger at home.
