I want to fix a problem installing a 2001-2005 RAV4. The clamps are out of place, at least not for me. No screws are needed to hold them in place. However, there is a problem with the installation. That's why I'm giving this 3 stars. To me, 5 stars means better than expected, 4 stars as expected, and 3 stars acceptable but not perfect. So I felt the length was ok, I also felt that small clips should work well although I felt they could be a bit more pronounced. Maybe 1mm. So here's what I found after looking at the one remaining piece on a RAV4 I bought that was missing three. It turns out there are other thin lines next to the little so-called lock-in-place clips that act as support and potentially prevent things from breaking. The one at my factory or aftermarket from 2001 (used who knows) seems to have had a backing or some sort of extra plastic to modify. They were shortened and slightly curved. I decided to try it and it worked. I took a dremel or other rotary tool and placed a round grinding adapter that the grinding ring slides onto. I used a moderate speed and reduced each a bit, maybe 3 or 4mm, who knows exactly. This left a slightly curved surface and points on the 3rd curve which I also smoothed out. Now they sit as they should and snap into place. Take a small amount first. If it looks better but doesn't snap into place and comes off easily with little or no pressure, give it a little more time to get the right result. where nothing can be touched. Everything else is smooth. Once completed and quickly snapped into place on the track, they hold up just fine. If you are still unsure after this, you can use a small flattened dab of Loctite topically. If you are careful it will not be visible and the water will not break. I didn't need glue. Well, for the folks who think the color doesn't match, here's the thing. They shine like new paint. Like the original roof rack, the sun will quickly take its toll on the plastic and the shine will fade and dull like an old roof rack. I hope that clears things up a bit. If the product didn't need to be changed I would have given 4 or maybe 5 stars. But I can't give anything higher than a 3 or 3.5 for the item that needs a rework, as well as those mentioned by others about installation issues, if that's possible. I would buy it again despite the need for improvement.
