I have a 2016 Macbook Pro with an audio in/out port. This cable works fine for audio output, but the MBP does not recognize the microphone. I've been using https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BJ17WKK (V-MODA BoomPro Gaming, VoIP Headset with Mic) for a few months and it has similar connectors - 4 sections on the laptop side, 3 sections on the side of the headphones . MBP recognizes the microphone always and immediately. Technically this cable should work, it has TRRS where needed (the mic is built in so TRS is fine on one end) so there must be something wrong with the cable itself.
