. When I received them, I pulled on both ends of each cord and only one end came loose. The cord is firmly glued/clamped into the metal ends. I see that the links in the last chain* can stretch and break when pulled, giving the appearance of "breaking", but you can close any links that stretch. The colors are bold, I even got a mix of 6 of each color. No unusual/bad smell. It's true - there is NO BLACK in this set - it says so in the description so don't be surprised. They are packed in a plastic bag and tied with a rubber band. This means that some cords were twisted/bent and did not "drape" evenly. I soaked the shriveled ones in water and hung them to dry, and they straightened up even more.
