Made entirely of stainless steel, including the base. And that's why they can be washed in the dishwasher. As I write this review, I'm drinking coffee from one of these mugs. What's good: They're insulated, keeping coffee warm and outside cool for a reasonable amount of time. They are dishwasher safe - I have already washed mine in the dishwasher. .I like the simple shape - a cup held upright up and down is less likely to tip over than a cup with a narrow base and wide top. They are surprisingly light for their size - lighter than comparable sized ceramic mugs. Improvement can be used: I would prefer a large mug that holds about 20 fl oz. It's a bit small for me with 14 fl oz capacity. I would have preferred a larger diameter grip - the overall size of the grip is reasonable and feels solid, but the larger diameter of material makes the grip feel more comfortable in the hand. The bowl is well made and serves its purpose. If that's the size you want, then great. I would like this to be offered in a larger size.
