Disgusting sound in headphones

Very good headphones. They are comfortable and can work for many hours without recharging. The main problem is that the sound sucks. It's like listening to music through a plastic bag. There are no highs at all, the mids sound lousy. The equalizer doesn't help to produce a decent sound either. Dissatisfied!
