My Macbook Air (A1369) was having all sorts of problems and I couldn't get it to boot or go into recovery mode or target disk mode. This device was the last line of defense. I was skeptical as I had never tried backing up from this type of 6+12 pin SSD before but this device made it very easy and more importantly it worked as promised. I connected the device to my backup Macbook with my SSD and was able to back up from there. Not sure if this is unique to mine, but it took a few minutes for it to finally be recognized by the backup computer and initially unmounted. I had to go into Disk Utility and mount it manually, and even that took a few minutes. It might get installed on your device right away, but in case you plug it in and it doesn't appear right away, you might have to wait a few minutes.
