The horrible chemical smell made me sick but the quality of the bags is good. Hang them outside for 4 weeks

The chemical smell of these bags is so intense and toxic that even the fact that I am in the same room with them they make me sick. I had to lie down for an hour for it to pass. I soaked two of them in cold water and mild soap for 2 hours and rinsed very thoroughly, even turning them inside out to soak and rinse, but the smell was still terrible. I only keep bags because they are well made and I've experienced this horrible chemical smell with burlap tablecloths I bought from various vendors years ago. I've found that if you hang them outside for literally 3 weeks the toxic chemicals they spray will eventually wear off and be safe to use. I REALLY WISH MANUFACTURERS TO USE THESE CHEMICALS. No burlap in nature smells like that. I think they treat the fabric with these chemicals to keep it from going moldy in storage/shipping, but I'm sure this should lead to a lot of returns. By the way, DO NOT wash them in the washing machine, otherwise the machine may break. ! Jute sheds a lot of coarse, bulky lint that can clog holes/filters in your washing machine and literally break your machine. This happened to my friend so I was warned. Also, when you wash them, only use warm water and a mild detergent. To be honest I don't think washing does that much to get rid of the smell. I just let them hang outside for 2 weeks, then turn them over and let them hang for another 2 weeks. This worked the last time I bought chemical soaked burlap.

Pros
  • The bags are made from 10 ounce eco-friendly natural burlap with thick biodegradable fibers
Cons
  • Great Price
