In terms of looks and workmanship, these speakers are great: beautiful, elegant shape, subtle, tasteful look, very solid appearance. They don't feel like a $200 speaker set at all. With the MTM speaker layout, these speakers are much closer to normal speaker efficiency compared to the base RB42s (which are inefficient at 83dB due to their small size), but they have 86dB, which isn't particularly efficient, but in the right scale for decent speaker is in this price range. I can't compare these speakers to anything modern - my pair of RB42-Cs replaced a pair of old MUSA Cambridge Soundworks Model 17s hooked up to a TV and it's a huge improvement. Vocals are much cleaner, bass is less distorted and everything is much cleaner. Bass is good - the smaller RB42 was tuned for lots of bass and they changed the crossover to the RB42-C to reduce bass boost and help with vocals and I was concerned the bass would sound weak. But I think the bass is good for the pop, house and jazz I listen to - as TV speakers, cleaner vocals are ideal. were noisy for a 12x15 room, didn't notice any port chugging with music and movies.
