Let the thing air out first. It came in a plastic bag and after opening it I smelled a strong odor and had a bad headache for the rest of the night. I let it sit for 2 days and it still smelled like something toxic when I put it up my nose (and felt nauseous for an hour or two afterwards). After the box opening step was completed, I tried the seal. This thing was huge! It's great for protecting a desk that you can also use a mouse on (is that the point?) or a couch-like portable desk. This keeps the keyboard in place much better than it would be on a wood or glass surface. The design is mediocre compared to the picture on the web. That's clear to anyone who used mouse pads in the '90s. The purchase is worthwhile for the price, but be sure to measure your desired area before buying.
