Does trick best for safety
We use this for our dog. It keeps him out of places we don't want him in and I love how he gets in and out of the door crack. We also have old fashioned wooden gates and they are much better. It's a bit flimsy, so it probably won't stop anything/ anyone who really wanted to pull it off. Especially if both hooks are not fixed.
