I purchased this item for travel in India and Asia where I knew I would be traveling by train. It was also perfect for protecting my suitcase/backpack in hotels. The cord is long enough to secure two suitcases and small backpacks on a train or hotel - although I bought two (one each for my husband and I) so I didn't have to split everything together. I don't think it's safe for really smart thieves, but for quick thieves it's perfect. I often travel the world and take it with me on every trip. The combination lock is small and only has 3 digits, but that also makes it easy to use.
