We ordered this modern cage stretcher for our rescue Chihuahua/Shih Tzu pup on her first flight to the beach. She is 4 months old and weighs about 4.5lbs, fits well and wasn't overly scared in the carrier after practicing walking around the house a few days before our flight. I wish it had a little more ventilation, maybe a little on top? I assume she will still fit in there for the next few months as she grows up, but I can't imagine she could turn around or anything if she were twice her size now. My relatives have a 9 lb Maltese and he could not fit in comfortably for long, his body was too stocky to fit easily when trying to retrieve the toy from the carrier. I really think it's for toy breeds like chihuahuas and the like. We bought another one from Petsmart and it's not as stylish but it's bigger and has better ventilation, I think we'll use it more often in the summer for future use. Oh the mat that came with this stretcher was reversible for the cool side (smooth) and the soft side for warmth.
