This docking station fits snugly against the air vent. I think it's a metal C spring. It has extra little legs that you can use to hold it to the vent itself. For the magnet: It fits snugly into my iPhone's MagSafe ring. I use a Gear4 Crystal Palace MagSafe case and a fairly strong magnetic force holds the phone onto the dock itself. It gives a good view of my iPhone for using Google Maps. If the car is air conditioned, the vent will help keep the phone cool when charging with a Lightning cable! I highly recommend this car dock for iPhone.
