Review on BERTER Barbell Squat Pad: Neck & Shoulder Protection For Standard And Olympic Bars! by Chris Wagner

Effective pad but a little bit hard to put on

Review of: **BERTER Barbell Squat Pad - Neck & Shoulder Protective Pad for Squats, Lunges, Hip Thrusts Fit Standard and Olympic Bars**The Good:-Durable canvas material should hold up for quite a long time-Wide enough to provide protection for your shoulders or hips-Nice thick padding that isn't too soft-Padded all the way around the bar, so no need to worry about it spinning and being out of position-Once secured with the velcro, stays in place very well-Has a loop on one end if you want to hang it on a hook when not using-Very reasonable priceThe Bad:-Getting the bar pressed into place far enough to properly secure the velcro is a bit of a pain - the space for the bar seems to be slightly too smallThe Bottom Line:Whether you're doing squats and need to protect your shoulders (not your neck - if the bar is against your neck you're doing it wrong) or doing hip thrusts and want to avoid bruising your hips or pelvic bone, a good barbell pad can really help. I have really liked using this app from Berter during my home workouts the last few weeks. It has been a bit of a hassle to get the pad put on properly - you can see in one of my pix how it is a bit of a challenge to get the bar pushed into the pad far enough to get the velcro to secure evenly - but once on, it works quite well. I tend to remove the pad when I don't need it, which makes this challenging install a bit of a pain. If you plan to just leave it on the bar all the time, this won't be a concern. The heavy duty canvas material covering the two ends should last a long time and although it isn't "soft" like a faux leather or other fabric, it isn't uncomfortable either. My biggest surprise though is that this pad is only $18. I think that's actually a bargain, since so much gym equipment these days is way overpriced. Given the usefulness and general quality of this pad, I definitely recommend it. A one-star deduction for the slightly annoying installation challenge.

Pros
  • I really love this item! Super helpful especially when doing weighted hip-thrusts.
Cons
  • Use a pool noodle. Much cheaper and it works.
