Review on 🕶️ Prescription Driving Sunglasses with Polarized Lenses for Anti-Glare Optics by Jim Raju

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not quite polarized as suggested

I bought these Fishman goggle clips to help my wife ride at night. They are designed to block horizontally polarized light and filter out blue light. They do, but not very much, maybe ten to twenty percent perceived effect at most (actually, the eye has a logarithmic response). I ran two clip-on performance tests with my existing amber polarized sunglasses. The first test was conducted with polarized filters and a polarization check test pattern, and the second test was conducted in the field looking at the headlight of an oncoming car while parked at the edge of a thoroughfare. , only ten to twenty percent are polarized (by eye, logarithmic response, remember). They also appear to offer similar blue light reduction (which is the most annoying part of the glare). Note that normally polarized sunglasses reduce horizontally polarized light by over 99 percent. The filter strips in the attached images are fully polarized in the short direction (just like polarized sunglasses). The first three images are clip-on and the last two are with my existing amber polarized sunglasses for comparison (last image was taken with the sunglasses directly on the camera lens - the colors in the image suggest circular polarization - interesting but irrelevant to these Valuation). did this fairly simply by reducing the overall lighting. Interestingly, a band of vertically polarized filters alone was no more effective than clip-ons at reducing headlight glare in the field (probably because the overall level of transmitted light was still too high). I suspect the goal of night vision lenses is not to reduce overall light too much by filtering out as much glare as possible. For city driving with heavy traffic, bright streetlights, and overall high ambient light levels, clear, amber, non-aggressive polarized sunglasses may be your best bet (provided you block glare and don't have poor night vision). These clips appear to be high quality overall, but I wish the designers had opted to filter out more light as good clips like this can be quickly toggled up and down like a light switch when needed. , these snap-on clips are a quality anti-glare product, but perhaps not enough to be really useful for most users.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Annoys me
