Review on Moby Dick Or Whale Herman Melville Audio by Keith Cannon

Revainrating 5 out of 5

American classics that are difficult to read but pleasant to listen to

Very pleasant to listen to. Well told and easy to understand, two of my main requirements for an audio book :). I tried to read this when I was young (thankfully I was never given that assignment) and it's hard to read. Herman Melville was a master of poetic expression, and it's nice to listen to but difficult to read, in my opinion. A true American classic about the dangers of revenge and the mob mentality. It also gives a glimpse into the powerful American whaling industry like a time machine, demonstrating once again the American concept (for better or for worse) that whatever the world is doing, we are always one step ahead. I was particularly pleased with the authors' (narrators') stance on the belief that humanity could never kill enough whales to endanger their numbers in the ocean, and drew an interesting analogy separating their kill from that of the American bison. Unfortunately, only a few decades later he knew where technology and seafaring would develop. I spent 0.99 on the firestart book and got the audio for free so I think it was money well spent.
