Unfortunately, Mephisto match shoes aren't what they used to be. I bought these pair a while ago but only recently started wearing them as I was wearing my old pair and was trying to squeeze the last crumbs out of them. Problem. These shoes weigh about half the weight of my old pair of match shoes. I suspect they use a lot less material and a much lighter material in the sole. It benefits Mephisto in terms of manufacturing and shipping costs, but does little for my legs. My old ones were made in Portugal. This pair was made in Bosnia. I've been a loyal Mephisto customer for over 20 years (despite the high price) because they were so comfortable, never hurt and fit my high arch well. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. This pair gives me heel pain, knee pain and makes my walks less comfortable. If I wanted to, I could go to Payless Shoe Source and buy two pairs for $20 instead of spending over $300 on one pair of shoes. If Mephisto's production costs or labor increased, I'd rather see a price increase than a decrease in product quality. Now I have to sit in a hot bath and soak my aching body. Farewell, Mephisto. Such a shame.
