Review on POWERTEC 71007 220V Paddle Switch by Brandon Micali

Looks like a good safety switch

Probably this switch was not intended to be built into a single box but more for industrial uses such as a drill, band saw, table saw. wherein the receiving body is sized for proper fit. The connection is very simple, follow the wiring diagram. From your power supply (LINE), install the LINE hot (black) and neutral (white) wires on the side labeled "LINE" and do the same for the wires going to the motor on the LEAD side. Very simple but some people overlook it. If you have green wires, they don't attach to the switch, they need to be tied together, connected to a metal ground, motor mount, earth point in a metal box, etc., not the switch. are metric and consist of a screw with spring washer and a nut on the back. I have to assume that this switch is not really intended for installation in an electrical box, but rather in an enclosure like that of my Delta band saw. When installing this switch I compared it to the Delta switch and the only visible difference is that the Delta does not have a large STOP button. The box on triangle package is not a standard electrical box and this new switch is perfect for this application. In the case where I installed it, I omitted the 2 metric mounting screws and replaced them with a standard US switch plate with 8-32 x 1.5" screws. Yes, very long screws, but I went through the switch cover, then through the plywood, and then into the waterproof box. Can't comment on the durability/durability of the switch yet, but it appears to be well made. The green "ON" button has a through hole for locking. until you feel/hear a "click". This is another safety feature of the switch. This is NOT a light switch, for those who complain that it's difficult to press and turn on.

Pros
  • Stable test results
Cons
  • A newer model could have been chosen
