Review on Retro Elastic Pleated Chiffon Maxi Skirt For Women - Full/Ankle Length by Melissa Hiegel

Revainrating 3 out of 5

I got the large and it fitted pretty much as I expected in the waist

I am 5'5" and usually wear a size 12 pants. I got the large and it fitted pretty much as I expected in the waist. I really wanted to like this skirt, but I usually like to wear my skirts at my natural waist and I was hoping for something that would skim the floor when I wore it that way without shoes. Then I could wear it with heels and they would just barely peek out. When I pulled it up to my natural waist, though, this skirt hit me around the ankles. With heels it would be too long to be a midi skirt and too short to be a maxi. It's like the skirt version of highwaters. If you're like 3-4 inches shorter than me, you're gonna love this length, but I do think it's expected that clothes will fit someone of average height (5'4"-5'5") unless otherwise stated. So that's minus one star for me.The other star I took off of this dress was for the slip. This skirt is chiffon and the description said "three layer design" so I wasn't sure what to expect in regards to see-through-ness. It turns out that the three layers are the full, flowy overskirt, a completely straight midi-length slip attached underneath that, and a completely straight mid-thigh-length skirt underneath that. Look, I don't know about you, but there's a reason I don't wear straight skirts. I find them really restricting! Imagine my consternation when I knelt down to pick up my cat while wearing this skirt and I had to hike up my underskirt to do it! Because of the slips, I find this skirt really unwearable for casual dressing. I'm going to have to rip out the underskirts and sew in a slip with more ease to be able to wear this skirt.

Pros
  • The skirt is comfortable and forgiving, making it perfect for postpartum wear
Cons
  • May slide down the hips when walking
