The cable works! Last week it was -25 in Denver. I wrapped heating cable around everything including an outside faucet. Everything was good except for the bowl. This is not due to the heating cable, but to the design of the bowl attachment. Mounts rise and fall around the bowl. They prevent the heating cable from touching the bottom of the bowl. The water at the bottom of the bowl remained thawed. The water at the top of the bowl is frozen. This wouldn't be a problem if the cord lay flat on the bottom of the bowl. I wrapped the bottom of the bowl in insulation and sealed it with tape as the instructions suggest. It helped a little, but the top was still freezing. Once again it was 4 days from 0 to -25 temp.
