I have found accidentally and after long rides that my helmet pads are caked with salt. When it rains, the salt is washed off your forehead and gets into your eyes. It burns so hot I can't keep my eyes open. It's not good to ride a bike through the city streets. I had never driven in heavy rain before the Randonnering so it was never a problem. I bought this cap to solve this problem and it works great. I don't wear it when it's not raining as I found it warms my head a bit. I also bought a hat with a flap at the back and use it on sunny days to protect my neck from the sun. When it rains, a headband and a little elastic in the front keep the sweat out of my eyes. The brim of the cap helps a little if rain gets in your eyes. Now I never go on a wild trip again without packing it somewhere.
