Using this as a direct replacement is very easy to install. The old block is literally unscrewed from the bracket and the new one turned back. The new unit includes a new rubber drain baffle (as well as everything you'd need for a brand new install) that's showing some wear after six years of use. (Eventually a date pit got stuck in the mechanism, forcing me to replace my old block, otherwise it worked without any issues.) But beware, if you're using this with a dishwasher you'll need to drill out the plastic piece at the end. the place where the dishwasher drain hose is attached, otherwise your dishwasher will not have a chance to drain the water. I assume they did this at the factory to make the unit fully waterproof for non-dishwasher users, but it's a bit inconvenient and the warnings about it aren't as prominent in the manual as they could be. Luckily my dishwasher shuts itself off after a few minutes if it can't drain properly, otherwise I could get in big trouble.
